Make sure both Macs are running the latest version of their operating systems. Is it possible to use Migration Assistant over USB? To migrate from 13-inch MacBook Air (mid 2009), which has a single USB 2 (480 MBit/s) port, into a new MacBook Pro (mid 2017) 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo/2GB/128GB SSD, which has two Thunderbolt 3 ports. Migration Assistant On a New Mac After a minute or so, your old Mac should appear as a choice for the source of migrating data. Select the old Mac from the list (more than likely, your old Mac will be the only item listed), and then click Continue. The Migration Assistant will display a verification code.
Migration Assistant is the app you use to perform a user migration. It’s found in the Applications folder’s Utilities folder. This flexible software can work in a variety of ways to transfer all.

Mac Migration Assistant Not Working
I've just replaced my old windows XP PC with a mac mini and i love it.
However, I'm having a problem with the migration assistant, the mac see's the PC and attempts to connect to it, saying i need to put in a pass code on the PC. The PC continually says 'waiting for connection from a mac'
I don't know if the problem is the mac or the PC!
Both have the fire walls off and file sharing ON. The Mac is on a wireless connection but the PC is on a wired connection. does this make a difference?
Someone please help me!!!
